Daniel Maldini has driving licence revoked after failing alcohol test following Milan crash

Daniel Maldini had his driving licence revoked after failing an alcohol test following a car crash in Milan, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The Cagliari forward, son of Italy and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, was involved in the collision after playing for his club against Atalanta on Saturday.

The accident happened at about 05:15 local time in northern Milan, when the Porsche Carrera 4 driven by Maldini collided with another vehicle, according to local media reports.

Six people were injured in the crash, although none suffered serious injuries. Maldini was taken to hospital for medical checks and treatment after sustaining non-serious injuries, before being discharged.

Police carried out an alcohol test on Maldini at the scene. Marca reported that the first test recorded 0.91 milligrams per litre of exhaled air, while the second showed 0.89 milligrams per litre.

The legal limit in Italy is 0.5 grams per litre of blood.

Authorities have also requested further tests to establish whether Maldini had any drugs in his system. The results of those tests are still awaited.

Maldini had remained in Milan after travelling with Cagliari to Bergamo for their match against Atalanta. He scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in that game.

The player’s lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, said Maldini had returned home and was in good condition.

“Daniel is fine and did not suffer any kind of injury, let alone a serious one,” Buongiorno said in comments reported by media outlets.
