Portugal and Guinea-Bissau defender Daniel Banjaqui, currently at Benfica, has been linked with a move to Atletico in La Liga.
The 18-year-old right-back has a market value of €10m and is under contract with the Portuguese club until 30 June 2031. The rumour comes after Banjaqui’s promotion to Benfica’s senior squad at the start of the 2026-27 season, having previously played for Benfica B.
Banjaqui has made six senior appearances this season, featuring in Liga Portugal 2, Liga Portugal and the Europa League. He started all three of his Liga Portugal 2 appearances and has played 171 minutes in the top flight, alongside a 90-minute Europa League appearance.
He joined Benfica’s youth system from Real Formacao in 2018 and progressed through the club’s under-15, under-17 and B teams before moving into the senior setup. Banjaqui also helped Portugal Under-17 win the Under-17 World Cup and European Under-17 Championship in 2025.
The proposed move would take him from Liga Portugal to Spain’s top division, although no transfer fee or agreement has been reported. For now, Banjaqui remains a Benfica player with a long-term contract and is part of the club’s first-team squad.
