Leyton Orient earned their first-ever victory over Wigan Athletic with a commanding 2-0 performance in Round 19 of League One at The Brick Community Stadium.
English-born Ghanaian striker Daniel Agyei was instrumental in breaking the deadlock, providing a pinpoint assist for Jayden Sweeney’s opener.
The match began with Wigan dominating possession, but Leyton Orient’s defensive resilience kept the hosts at bay. In the 41st minute, Agyei whipped in a precise cross from the right flank, finding Sweeney unmarked in the box. The left-back coolly slotted the ball past Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Wigan pressed hard for an equalizer in the second half but failed to capitalize on their opportunities, including six shots that lacked clinical precision. Leyton Orient sealed the victory in injury time when Diallang Jaiyesimi latched onto a Josh Keeley through ball and fired home.
This win moves Leyton Orient closer to mid-table security. Agyei now boasts three goals and four assists this season, underlining his pivotal role. Up next, Leyton Orient faces Charlton Athletic in the EFL Trophy on December 10th.
