Barcelona manager Hansi Flick faces another selection concern before Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid after Dani Olmo was injured during Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.
Olmo left the Parc des Princes in frustration, holding his thigh in a worrying manner after being forced off in the 27th minute. Fermin Lopez replaced the Spain international.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, initial reports suggest Olmo may have suffered a tear to the muscle in his left thigh. Such an injury would rule him out of the meeting with Real Madrid at Camp Nou in the 10th round of La Liga, as well as several matches beyond it.
Barcelona are expected to receive a clearer assessment on Wednesday, when Olmo undergoes an MRI scan in the city. His diagnosis and recovery timetable will not be confirmed until the results of that examination are known.
“Should a tear be confirmed, the recovery period could range between four and five weeks,” AS reported.
Olmo’s injury would represent another setback for Flick’s squad at a crucial point of the season. It follows injuries to Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia in Barcelona’s previous La Liga match against Real Betis.
The potential absence of Olmo leaves Barcelona facing further disruption before they host Real Madrid on Sunday.
