Qualified for the play-offs of the African zone qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, the Senegal national football team, known as the Lions of Senegal, will learn about their opponent on September 16 following the draw. Senegal’s coach, Alain Giresse, expressed his desire to avoid facing Ivory Coast and Nigeria, both selections from Pot A.
In an interview, Giresse mentioned that this preference is merely a wish, acknowledging that they do not have control over the draw process. Despite being the 11th selection in the latest FIFA ranking, Giresse believes that the Lions will not be considered favorites for qualification. However, he emphasized that at this stage, there are no longer small teams, and all the nations involved are formidable opponents.
After the draw, the ten teams that advance will face each other in the return leg (October 11-15 for the first leg and November 15-19 for the second leg) to determine the five African representatives for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
