Czech top-flight heavyweights Viktoria Plzen, have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Salim Fago Lawal in the current transfer window.
The enterprising forward joins the club on a long-term contract running until June 2029, bringing an end to his spell at Croatian side NK Istra 1961.
Lawal’s future had been the subject of intense transfer speculation over the past few weeks, with several clubs monitoring his situation closely following his impressive performances in Croatia.
The Nigerian striker was widely tipped to complete a move to Azerbaijani giants Qarabağ FK, with multiple reports indicating that negotiations were at an advanced stage and a switch appeared imminent.
However, Viktoria Plzen entered the race decisively and acted swiftly, hijacking the proposed move and convincing the player to choose the Czech champions’ project. Their prompt and determined approach ultimately proved decisive, allowing them to secure Lawal’s signature ahead of their rivals.
The Nigerian forward arrived in the Czech Republic on Monday, where he successfully completed his medical examinations before finalising the transfer paperwork. With all formalities concluded, Lawal is now officially a Viktoria Plzen player and is expected to integrate quickly into the squad.
Lawal’s arrival is seen as a significant boost for Viktoria Plzen as they look to maintain their competitiveness at the top of Czech football while also making an impact on the European stage. For the player, the move represents an important step forward in his career, offering him a new challenge and a platform to further showcase his talent at a higher level.
