Burkina Faso has introduced a fresh talent to its national squad as 19-year-old winger Cyriaque Kalou Bi Irié receives his first senior call-up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Troyes attacker, who has been making strides in Ligue 2, is now set to represent the Stallions on the international stage.
A Rising Prospect with Dual Eligibility
Born on June 20, 2005, in Vavoua, Ivory Coast, Irié holds both Ivorian and Burkinabe nationality. Despite being eligible to play for either nation, he has already represented Burkina Faso at the U20 level, hinting at his future with the senior side.
His rapid progression has now earned him a chance to prove himself on a bigger platform.
Irié’s journey began at Real du Faso, where his performances caught the attention of French club Dijon FCO. In July 2023, scouts identified his potential during a visit to Burkina Faso, leading to a professional contract offer on September 13, 2023.
After just one season at Dijon, he made the move to Troyes, where he has flourished, solidifying his status as one of the brightest young talents in Ligue 2.
Impressive Debut Season in France
Despite Troyes’ mixed fortunes, Irié has emerged as a standout performer. His attacking consistency has been evident, with seven goals and two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, including Ligue 2 and the Coupe de France.
At 1.85 meters tall, Irié is a right-sided winger with a left-footed preference. His game is built on speed, technical dribbling, and an ability to take on defenders with confidence.
His finishing ability and offensive creativity have made him an exciting prospect, drawing attention from the Burkina Faso national team setup.
National Team Opportunity Beckons
Burkina Faso head coach Brama Traoré has decided to include Irié in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau.
This selection provides the young winger with an opportunity to make his senior debut and stake his claim for a regular role in the team.
For the Stallions, integrating new attacking talent is crucial as they prepare for competitive international fixtures. Irié’s inclusion signals a belief in his ability to contribute immediately while also developing into a long-term asset for the national team.
A Future Full of Potential
At just 19 years old, Irié’s career is still in its early stages, but his trajectory suggests a promising future. His immediate focus will be on making an impression with Burkina Faso and securing his place in the squad.
Meanwhile, at club level, continued strong performances at Troyes could eventually open doors to top European leagues.
If he continues on his current path, Burkina Faso may have found a dynamic attacking talent capable of making a significant impact in the years to come.
