CSKA Moscow is reportedly plotting a move to re-sign Ivorian midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin, 29, from French club FC Nantes.
According to L’Équipe, the Russian side hopes to rekindle their connection with Gbamin, who impressed during a loan stint with the club in 2022 while on Everton’s books. Gbamin is said to have cherished his time in Moscow, fueling the potential reunion.
Since joining Nantes over the summer from Ligue 2 outfit USL Dunkerque, Gbamin has struggled to make an impact. He has made just seven appearances this season, starting only twice under Antoine Kombouaré. With Nantes languishing in the relegation play-off zone after a dismal run of form, the midfielder’s future appears uncertain.
CSKA Moscow is prepared to invest in the tenacious midfielder to bolster their squad. For Gbamin, a return to familiar territory could provide the stability he needs to revive his career.
Nantes’ season began brightly, briefly climbing to third in the league, but a winless streak since August has left the team reeling. Could Gbamin’s exit mark a turning point for both player and club?
