Despite a promising start for TP Mazembe in the second leg final of the CAF Confederation Cup, the Congolese club was unable to overturn the 0-2 deficit from the first leg against Tunisian Club Sportif Sfaxien (CSS). Playing at their Kamalondo stadium in Lubumbashi, Mazembe took an early lead with a goal from Malian Cheibane Traoré in the 10th minute, sparking excitement in the city.
Continuing their dominance, Mbwana Samatta doubled the lead for Mazembe in the 24th minute, putting them in a favorable position. However, in the 87th minute, CS Sfaxien’s Ben Youssef scored with a header from a corner, leaving Mazembe in a challenging situation. Despite their continued efforts and dominance in the second half, Mazembe couldn’t find the net again.
CS Sfaxien secured their victory with a 3-1 aggregate score, winning their third CAF Confederation Cup title. The defeat marked a rare occurrence for Mazembe, known for their formidable record at home.
