CS Constantine take to the pitch tonight at the Berkane Municipal Stadium for what is arguably the most significant match in their club’s history.
The Algerian side face RS Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, with kick-off set for 8pm (DZ time), marking their debut at this advanced stage of the competition.
As Algeria’s last remaining representative in African club football this season, Constantine carry not only their own ambitions but the hopes of a nation.
Their quarter-final victory over compatriots USM Alger has fuelled belief that they can continue their remarkable journey, though they face a formidable challenge in Moroccan giants RS Berkane.
Head coach Kheireddine Madoui, known for his tactical acumen in continental competitions, is urging calm focus and discipline from his squad as they prepare to confront a side currently leading Morocco’s Botola Pro.
“We will approach the match with all the concentration we can to achieve the best result that will allow us to approach the return leg in the best possible shape,” Madoui said. “RS Berkane is a formidable opponent, structured and with significant experience on the continental scene. Their first place in Botola Pro is a testament to their consistency and solidity. It will not be an easy match. […] We will need to show extreme concentration, because this type of match often comes down to details.”
At the pre-match press conference, he added: “The match will be a pure North African derby, which will, in my opinion, be decided by small details.
Victory will go to the team that makes the fewest errors and is the most focused on the pitch. […] We have great confidence in the squad to put in a great performance on the pitch.”
The Constantine delegation, comprising 57 members including 27 players, arrived in Morocco on a specially chartered flight and were received warmly by Algerian diplomatic officials in Oujda.
Based in the nearby resort town of Saïdia, the team has been training in tailored conditions, with every effort made to maintain peak readiness ahead of the clash.
The players, aware of the magnitude of the occasion, are visibly motivated.
Forward Dadi El Hocine Mouaki said: “We are fully aware of the responsibility that weighs on our shoulders. We also know what awaits us tomorrow against RS Berkane. […] However, we will give our all on the pitch to achieve a positive result.”
Team captain Sofiane Dib shared the same determination: “First of all, it’s a source of pride for us players who have the privilege of playing in the first semi-final in the history of CSC. […] We know our mission will be difficult, but we’re not going to sit back. Quite the opposite, we’re going to do everything we can to get through this round.”
Despite uncertainty over the availability of Tahar Fethallah due to injury, the squad remains unified and resolute.
Backed by passionate supporters, including some who have made the journey to Morocco, CS Constantine are determined to return home with a result that will keep their continental dream alive ahead of the return leg at the Chahid-Hamlaoui Stadium.
