Crystal Palace are preparing for a major transfer decision this winter after setting a £35 million to £40 million valuation on central defender Marc Guehi, with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool all expected to test the club’s resolve before the window closes.
Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Guehi has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders and is now entering a decisive phase of his Palace career.
His contract expires at the end of the season, leaving the south London club facing a clear choice: sell in January or risk losing the England international on a free transfer in the summer.
Liverpool remain firmly in the frame after a previous attempt to sign Guehi collapsed late in the window when Palace withdrew from negotiations.
The Merseyside club are understood to be considering a renewed approach, determined to move quickly in order to ward off competition from Europe’s elite.
According to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, Palace manager Oliver Glasner and the club’s hierarchy have fixed their asking price at between £35m and £40m.
Guehi is said to be open to leaving if the right opportunity arises, although Plettenberg reports that the defender is “favouring a free transfer in the summer”, a scenario that would significantly weaken Palace’s bargaining position.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation closely as they assess defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.
However, Liverpool are viewed as frontrunners due to mounting concerns at the back, including a serious ACL injury to summer signing Giovanni Leoni, stalled contract talks with Ibrahima Konate, and the advancing age of captain Virgil van Dijk, who will turn 35 this year.
