Crystal Palace could send Evann Guessand back to Aston Villa in January

Crystal Palace could terminate Evann Guessand’s loan during the January transfer window and return the Ivory Coast international to Aston Villa, according to Football Insider.

Guessand joined the Eagles on another temporary deal after spending last season with the club. However, the 25-year-old has struggled for opportunities in the current campaign and has not featured in Crystal Palace’s past five matches.

He was also left out of the club’s squad for the Europa League, further underlining his current position within the team.

The situation follows public criticism from Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage, who said Guessand had not produced the level expected of him. The forward’s lack of involvement has led to questions over whether he still forms part of the manager’s plans.

Mick Brown, a former Aston Villa scout who spoke to Football Insider, believes a return to Birmingham could become an option if Guessand is unable to improve his position at Crystal Palace.

Brown considers Guessand to be well down the pecking order under Sage. If the striker cannot restore his manager’s confidence, Crystal Palace could consider ending the loan in January rather than keeping him for the remainder of the season.

Crystal Palace had previously explored the possibility of signing Guessand permanently after his first loan spell. The club ultimately chose to agree a second temporary arrangement instead.

Guessand remains under contract with Aston Villa until 30 June 2030. His estimated market value is €25m, while his annual salary is €2,249,654, equivalent to 1,462,275,100 FCFA.

His involvement in the Premier League this season has been limited to two appearances, totalling 54 minutes.
