Since taking over as Manchester United’s head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already begun planning for next season, with particular focus on strengthening the squad’s defensive options. One area of interest is the right-back position, where he has identified a promising target.
According to the Daily Mail, Solskjaer has set his sights on Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 21-year-old Crystal Palace defender, of Congolese descent, has made a name for himself in the Premier League as one of the league’s most effective tacklers, earning widespread recognition for his defensive abilities. His performances this season have significantly raised his profile, making him a highly sought-after young talent.
Wan-Bissaka, who is under contract with Palace until June 2022, has featured in 27 league games this season. Crystal Palace value him at around €30 million, a figure considered achievable for a club of Manchester United’s financial stature. Securing the young defender would provide long-term stability at right-back and offer competition for the position moving forward.
Currently, Manchester United’s right-back duties are handled by veteran Ashley Young. At 34 years old, Young cannot be expected to perform at the highest level for much longer, making it crucial for Solskjaer to plan for the future. Signing Wan-Bissaka would address this gap, ensuring the Red Devils have a dynamic and reliable option on the right flank for years to come.
With Solskjaer already focused on recruitment, it’s clear that Manchester United are serious about reinforcing their squad, blending youth and experience to compete at the top of the Premier League and in Europe next season.
