Chelsea coach defends Nicolas Jackson amidst Premier League criticism

Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson, the Senegalese striker, who has faced criticism for perceived underperformance in the current Premier League season, finds a staunch defender in his coach, Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite the recent 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton, where Jackson remained silent on the score sheet, Pochettino urged critics to exercise patience, emphasizing the adaptation process to English football.

In a season where Chelsea’s performance has been scrutinized, Nicolas Jackson, having netted 7 goals in 17 league matches since the commencement of the season, has been a focal point of discussion among football observers.

However, Pochettino, the Blues coach, has come forward to shield the young striker from the mounting expectations.

Addressing the concerns surrounding Jackson’s performance, Pochettino remarked, “If you compare Nico to different strikers who come to his age in a new league, he still scores goals.

“He’s young, it’s his first season in the Premier League, the expectations are huge, we are Chelsea. Blame the whole team, not him alone.”

The Argentine coach emphasized the collective responsibility within the team and urged a broader perspective on evaluating individual performances.

Despite the scrutiny, Pochettino stands firmly behind Jackson, recognizing the challenges that come with adapting to the rigors of English football.

Notably, Nicolas Jackson was acquired by Chelsea from Villarreal for a significant fee of 37 million euros, reflecting the club’s strategic investment in young talent.

As the Premier League season progresses, Pochettino remains optimistic about Jackson’s growth and contribution to Chelsea’s objectives, urging both supporters and critics to consider the broader context of the team’s collective efforts.
