Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister sparks controversy with post criticising Portuguese people

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has caused controversy after sharing a message that appeared to insult the Portuguese public amid her brother’s dispute with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old captain left Portugal’s training camp on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s Nations League group-stage meeting with Denmark. His departure followed comments made by Jorge Jesus.

Ronaldo then issued a strongly worded statement saying he had left camp after Jorge Jesus’ remarks and a meeting with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation. He added that he would reveal the full truth “at the right time”.

The forward ended his message by wishing Portugal good luck, a sign that could point to the end of his international career.

Ronaldo’s sister shares controversial message

In response to the fast-moving events, Ronaldo’s older sister, Elma Aveiro, reposted a message written by one of the Portugal forward’s supporters and indicated her agreement with it.

The post, shared on her Instagram account, criticised the national team, the Portuguese media and the country’s supporters.

“The national team deserved better restructuring. The Portuguese press deserved more competence and fewer guesses. As for the Portuguese people… well, they do not deserve better in anything. We are envious, contemptuous and ignorant, and we deserve to return to the mediocrity we have always had in football before CR7. Thank you for everything, CR7!” the message said.

Aveiro added a brief comment of her own: “Everything has been said.”

The post was shared as attention focused on the disagreement between Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus, with Portugal preparing to face Denmark in the third round of the Nations League group stage.
