Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez ‘set to marry’ at Madeira cathedral

Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancee Georgina Rodriguez are reportedly preparing to marry on the Portuguese island of Madeira this weekend, in what could become one of the most lavish weddings in sporting history.

The ceremony is expected to take place in Funchal Cathedral, which has reportedly been reserved exclusively for the occasion, according to German newspaper Bild. Madeira is Ronaldo’s birthplace and the reported setting would add a personal significance to the event.

Ronaldo, 41, and Rodriguez, 32, have not publicly confirmed the wedding reports. If the ceremony goes ahead, it would mark the latest chapter in a relationship that began in 2016, when the Portugal captain met Rodriguez in Madrid.

At the time, Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid and Rodriguez worked in a Gucci store. Their relationship developed quickly and they welcomed their daughter, Alana Martina, towards the end of 2017. Their family has since grown to include several children.

The couple regularly offer their followers on Instagram glimpses of their luxury lifestyle, with expensive cars, jewellery and properties among the features of their public life.

In one image shared in 2025, Ronaldo and Rodriguez were pictured inside a Bugatti Centodieci. The car was valued at about 11.6m euros by the Daily Mail.

Both were also wearing luxury watches made by Patek Philippe. Ronaldo’s diamond-encrusted watch was estimated to be worth about 605,000 euros, while Rodriguez’s was valued at approximately 380,000 euros.

The scene was completed by Rodriguez’s engagement ring, which has been estimated at about 5.2m euros. The combined value of the car and the jewellery shown in that single photograph was therefore put at more than 17.8m euros.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo went to considerable lengths to make his marriage proposal memorable. Alongside the multi-million-euro engagement ring, he is reported to have given Rodriguez a collection of luxury gifts with a total value of about 313,000 euros.

Those gifts reportedly included a white Porsche Taycan worth approximately 90,000 euros and a luxury Audemars Piguet watch valued at around 61,000 euros. Rodriguez was also said to have received handbags from Dior and Louis Vuitton worth close to 8,000 euros, as well as a selection of exclusive dresses and blouses estimated at about 20,000 euros.

The couple’s investments extend beyond cars and jewellery. Property is also understood to be an important part of their portfolio.

Reports say Ronaldo and Rodriguez own two luxury villas on Nujuma, a private island overlooking the Red Sea. The island can only be reached by boat or seaplane.

The two properties are estimated to have cost about 8m euros in total. They provide space for the couple’s family while also offering a private retreat where Ronaldo and Rodriguez can enjoy holidays away from public attention.

Such purchases are unlikely to represent a significant financial burden for Ronaldo, given the fortune he has built during his career on and off the pitch.

According to Bloomberg, the Portugal international has an estimated net worth of $1.4bn, making him the first footballer in history to reach billionaire status.

As the reported wedding date approaches, Ronaldo and Rodriguez’s story continues to combine football fame, celebrity and a level of luxury that has made their relationship one of the most closely followed in sport.
