Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez reportedly plan Madeira wedding at Funchal Cathedral
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are reportedly preparing to marry in Madeira, the Portuguese island where the Al-Nassr and Portugal forward grew up.
The Sun reported on Sunday that the couple appeared to have chosen Madeira for their wedding ceremony. Local reports claim Funchal Cathedral, in the island’s capital, has been reserved for a large wedding next Saturday, with celebrations expected to begin at 15:00.
Ronaldo, who is 41 and was raised in Funchal, and Rodriguez, a 32-year-old Spanish-Argentine model, are also said to have booked a hotel close to the cathedral for the wedding reception.
One source told The Sun: “Hotel guests have been told that two floors will be out of service on Friday and Saturday, as well as several bar areas.”
The reported arrangements have fuelled speculation that the couple are close to formalising their relationship after almost a decade together. Ronaldo met Rodriguez in 2016, and he proposed to her last August.
The pair were photographed last week wearing diamond rings while boarding a yacht in Mallorca. Those images added to growing interest in their plans, although the reported ceremony details have not been officially confirmed by either Ronaldo or Rodriguez.
Ronaldo has previously said that he and Rodriguez intended to marry after the World Cup. Portugal were eliminated from that tournament by Spain, who went on to win the title last month.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has also spoken about Rodriguez as the partner with whom he wanted to settle down, saying she was the only woman he had dated with whom he had wanted a long-term future.
A wedding in Funchal would take Ronaldo back to the place where he spent his childhood before beginning his professional career. He left Madeira as a teenager to join Sporting CP, eventually moving to Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and then Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez have built a family together, while continuing to maintain a high-profile public life through football, fashion and social media. The reported booking of the cathedral and nearby hotel suggests preparations may now be under way for a major event on the island.
However, the information remains based on media and local reports. Neither the date nor the venue has been formally announced by the couple.
