US Cremonese are in advanced discussions to secure the services of Ivorian defender Koffi Djidji as they prepare for their return to Italy’s top flight.

Djidji, 32, has been without a club since parting ways with Torino at the end of June following the expiry of his contract.

The experienced centre-back is eager to resume competitive football, and Cremonese view him as an ideal addition to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new Serie A season.

Newly promoted to the first division, the Lombardy-based club have been assessing reinforcements capable of adapting quickly to the demands of Italy’s highest level.

Djidji’s extensive experience in Serie A, coupled with his previous spells at Crotone and Torino, has positioned him as a prime candidate for the role.

His free agent status is a major advantage for Cremonese, eliminating transfer fees and making the deal more financially manageable.

The Ivorian international’s market valuation currently stands at €1 million, while his most recent salary at Torino was €470,000 per year.

Talks between both parties are already underway, with Cremonese reportedly accelerating negotiations in recent days to conclude an agreement before the season gathers momentum.

Club officials are understood to be keen on finalising the deal swiftly to integrate Djidji into the squad’s preparations.

Cremonese, often praised for their disciplined style of play, will need a robust defensive line to compete effectively this season.

Djidji’s physicality, aerial presence and composure on the ball are qualities the club believes could significantly enhance their backline.

The timing of the potential move is particularly important, with Cremonese set to open their Serie A campaign against AC Milan.

Securing Djidji before the match could provide the team with an immediate boost in defensive depth, offering manager flexibility in selection and tactical approach.

Djidji, who began his professional career in France before moving to Italy, has built a reputation for his consistency and work ethic.

His familiarity with Italian football’s tempo and tactical demands could allow him to make an immediate impact if the deal is completed.

While no official announcement has been made, the pace of negotiations suggests that both parties are eager to reach an agreement. For Cremonese, signing an experienced and proven defender like Djidji could be a crucial step in solidifying their position in Serie A.

For Djidji, the move would represent a welcome return to the league he knows well and a fresh opportunity to showcase his abilities at the highest level.

The coming days will be decisive as Cremonese push to finalise the transfer and reinforce their squad ahead of a challenging campaign in Italy’s top tier.
