CR Belouizdad avenged their recent Super Cup defeat by eliminating MC Alger from the Algerian Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the round of 16 on Sunday.
Facing the team that had beaten them just eight days earlier, CRB delivered a disciplined performance at the Stade du 5 Juillet, securing their place in the next round while ending MC Alger’s 11-match unbeaten run.
The decisive moment came early in the second half when Aimen Mahious capitalized on a defensive lapse to break the deadlock in the 47th minute.
The forward, who had scored twice against CRB in the Super Cup on February 8, once again proved to be a decisive figure in the fixture.
MC Alger had several opportunities to equalize, but a combination of poor finishing, defensive resilience from CRB, and a lack of luck in front of goal left them unable to find a breakthrough.
Despite their efforts, Khaled Ben Yahia’s side failed to convert their dominance into goals, ultimately bowing out of the competition.
For CR Belouizdad, the victory serves as both redemption and a significant boost in their pursuit of silverware.
With MC Alger now out of the tournament, CRB will look to build on this momentum as they continue their quest for the Algerian Cup title.
