Coventry complete €18m deal for Swiss-Cameroonian defender Aurele Amenda from Frankfurt
Coventry have signed Swiss-Cameroonian centre-back Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in an €18m permanent deal. The 22-year-old joins the Premier League club after 18 months on the Bundesliga side’s books.
Amenda, born in Biel/Bienne and standing at 1.94m, moves to England having already built up top-flight experience in both Germany and Switzerland. Primarily a right-footed central defender, he is seen as a reinforcement for the heart of Coventry’s back line as they prepare for the new campaign.
The defender first left Young Boys for Frankfurt in January 2024 for €9.5m before briefly returning to the Swiss champions on loan later that month. He then went back to the Bundesliga club at the end of that season, making 32 league appearances in Germany overall, as well as featuring in the DFB-Pokal.
Before his switch to the Bundesliga, Amenda established himself at Young Boys after progressing through their youth system from the under-16s. He played in the Swiss Super League, the Swiss Cup, and gained exposure in European competitions including the Champions League and Europa League.
At youth level he was also involved in the UEFA Youth League and domestic age-group leagues, where he showed an ability to contribute goals from defence, scoring across the U18 Elite League, U17 Elite League and Swiss U18 Cup. His senior honours include three Swiss league titles and one Swiss Cup with Young Boys.
Amenda, whose current market valuation stands at €10m, officially completed his move to Coventry on 16 July 2026.
