Coventry City agree record €27m deal to sign Ghana star Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjælland

Premier League side Coventry City have reached an agreement to sign Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish club FC Nordsjælland in what is set to become a record-breaking transfer for the Danish Superliga.

The deal will see Coventry pay €27 million for the highly-rated midfielder, with €3 million included in potential performance-based add-ons. If completed, the transfer will become the biggest outgoing deal in the history of Danish top-flight football.

Yirenkyi, 20, is understood to have been attracted to Coventry’s ambitious project under manager Frank Lampard, with assurances of an important role and regular first-team opportunities at the club.

The Sky Blues are prepared to smash their existing transfer record to secure the services of the Ghana international, who has emerged as one of the most promising young midfielders in European football.

The move is now subject to the completion of a medical examination and final contract formalities. Yirenkyi is expected to travel to England soon for his medical, with an official unveiling anticipated before the end of the week.

Yirenkyi’s imminent move follows an impressive campaign with Nordsjælland, where he established himself as a key figure in the team. The midfielder made 30 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing two goals and six assists.
