Cove Rangers sign England and Angola defender Afonso Lindo
Cove Rangers have signed England and Angola centre-back Afonso Lindo after the 22-year-old spent time without a club. The defender joins the Scottish League One side on a deal running until 1 January 2027.
Lindo completed the move on 21 August 2026, adding defensive cover to Cove Rangers’ squad for the new season. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the move.
The 1.93m right-footed defender has spent much of his career in English youth football. He made 44 appearances in Premier League 2, scoring once and providing one assist, while also featuring 28 times in the Under-18 Premier League.
Lindo’s most recent club before his spell without a team was Iberia 1999, whom he joined from Boro U21 in July 2025. He left the Georgian side at the start of 2026 and subsequently became available before switching to Cove Rangers.
His earlier development came through Boro’s youth system. He moved from Boro Yth. to Boro U18 in July 2020 before stepping up to Boro U21 two years later.
Alongside his Premier League 2 experience, Lindo has appeared in a range of cup and development competitions, including the National League Cup, Premier League International Cup Under-21 and the Premier League 2 play-offs. He also played in the FA Youth Cup and made an appearance in Georgia’s Erovnuli Liga 2.
The move takes Lindo into Scottish football with Cove Rangers, who compete in League One. His arrival gives the club a defender with experience across academy, development and senior-level competitions in England and Georgia.
Lindo is eligible to represent England and Angola, reflecting his listed dual nationality. He joins Cove Rangers at the age of 22 and is contracted through to the beginning of 2027.
The completed move was registered on 21 August, with Lindo now a Cove Rangers player.
