Thibaut Courtois Set to Return to Chelsea as Mourinho’s Goalkeeper Choice
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the last three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, is widely expected to return to Stamford Bridge next season. According to reports from the Spanish daily Marca, Chelsea manager José Mourinho has decided to make Courtois his first-choice goalkeeper, setting up a competition with veteran Petr Čech.
This decision was further confirmed by Belgium national team manager Marc Wilmots during a conversation with former Liverpool coach Gérard Houllier. When asked about Courtois’s future, Wilmots said: “He will return to Chelsea.” Pressed on whether this meant Čech would be sold, Wilmots added, “If it’s possible, yes.”
Courtois has impressed throughout his loan spell at Atletico, playing a key role in the club’s successes, which makes it hard to imagine Chelsea not keeping him. However, with Mourinho’s unpredictable management style, fans will be watching closely to see how the goalkeeper situation unfolds next season.
