Auxerre will host Stade Rennais this Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France at Abbé Deschamps, where Axel Ngando is poised to be a key figure. The creative midfielder will play a crucial role in Auxerre’s midfield, aiming to disrupt the Bretons’ strategy.
Originally trained in Rennes, the 21-year-old was loaned to Auxerre to gain the playing time he lacked in Brittany. Ngando swiftly adapted to his new surroundings and enjoyed a successful season wearing the white Burgundy jersey.
Facing his former club for the first time in his career, Ngando acknowledges the significance of the occasion: “It will be special,” he expressed, as reported by the official Rennes website. “For 14 years, I’ve always worn the Rennes jersey. I know almost the entire team. It will feel strange, but I’ll focus on my game.”
An integral part of Auxerre’s midfield, Ngando has no regrets about his loan spell and is entrusted with taking set pieces. “I have the playing time I came for. I’m gaining experience and confidence,” he remarked.
Regarding the cup match, Ngando believes it will be evenly matched: “It will be a 50-50 game. Playing at home gives us an advantage. We’re a well-rounded team capable of retaining possession and executing set-piece plays effectively.”
