AS Cannes caused a major upset in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France by securing a victory in extra time, thanks to Moroccan player Belkacem Zoniri’s stunning goal in the 119th minute (1-0).
Despite dominating PSG in the previous round, Montpellier faced difficulties finding the net on a muddy pitch in Cannes. Their chances of scoring earlier in the match were hampered when Mbaye Niang missed a penalty, hitting the post.
Throughout regulation time, Montpellier struggled to break through Cannes’ defense, resulting in a tense and tightly contested match. However, it was Zoniri’s decisive strike in the dying moments of extra time that sealed the victory for AS Cannes and propelled them into the next round of the competition.
