ASEC Mimosas Spoils Séwé Sport’s Bid for Back-to-Back Double with Dramatic Cup Win
In a thrilling finale of the 2014 Ivorian National Cup, ASEC Mimosas denied reigning champions Séwé Sport a second consecutive league and cup double by claiming a 2-1 victory after extra time on Sunday. This marks ASEC’s 19th triumph in the prestigious competition.
Séwé Sport took an early lead thanks to a goal from Roger Assalé, catching ASEC off guard in the first half. However, the Yellow and Blacks fought back through D’Avila Loua Ba in the second half, leveling the score at 1-1 by the end of regular time.
With the new Ivory Coast national team coach Hervé Renard watching from the stands, ASEC intensified their attack in extra time. Davy Boua sealed the victory by beating goalkeeper Jean-Vincent Ahouchi, securing the cup for ASEC in the 51st edition of the tournament.
