The draw for the 2019 COSAFA Cup groups was held on Thursday, with 14 countries, including one guest nation, competing for the title. As per the tournament format, the eight lowest-ranked teams in the region were divided into two groups of four, with the group winners advancing to the quarter-finals to join the six highest-ranked nations, who are exempt from the first round.
The six top-ranked teams entering at the quarter-final stage are South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Uganda (a Cecafa country invited as a guest), Zambia, and defending champions Zimbabwe.
In the draw, Angola was placed in Group A alongside Eswatini, Comoros, and Mauritius. Group B consists of Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi, and Seychelles.
The quarter-final matchups have been set as follows: the winner of Group A will face Zimbabwe, while Zambia will play against the winner of Group B. South Africa will meet Botswana, and Lesotho will face Uganda.
The 2019 COSAFA Cup is scheduled to take place from May 25 to June 8 in Durban.
