Ghana Black Stars to compete in 2014 COSAFA Cup in Botswana
Gaborone, 16 May 2025
The Ghana Black Stars will join southern African nations at this year’s COSAFA Cup after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) accepted an invitation from the regional football body.
Botswana is set to host the tournament from September 13 to 27, with reigning champions Zambia aiming to defend their title for the fifth consecutive time.
In a statement, COSAFA confirmed Ghana’s participation, noting: “The Black Stars, who are preparing for the 2014 World Cup, have agreed to take part in the competition. They replace Comoros, who withdrew, and will seek to become the first non-Southern African nation to win the tournament in its 17-year history.”
Zambia secured their fourth straight COSAFA Cup title last July after defeating Zimbabwe in the final.
Ghana’s entry adds significant prestige and competition to the southern African regional tournament ahead of the World Cup.
