In a historic show of unity, the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) and the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) have jointly pledged their support for two candidates vying for positions on the FIFA Council.
This collaboration affirms the commitment of both regional bodies to advancing African representation at the highest level of global football governance.
Andrew Kamanga, the President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), has been endorsed as the sole candidate from COSAFA, while Souleiman Hassan Waberi, President of the Djibouti Football Federation (DFF), will represent CECAFA.
Their candidacies reflect a broader strategy to strengthen Africa’s voice in FIFA’s decision-making processes.
With COSAFA comprising 14 CAF Member Associations and CECAFA 11, the collective backing of these regional unions provides strong momentum for the two candidates.
Their eligibility has already been confirmed by FIFA’s Review Committee, setting the stage for a significant electoral contest.
Signed by COSAFA President Said Ali Said Athouman and CECAFA President Wallace Karia, this statement marks a rare moment of solidarity in African football.
Their joint endorsement signals a shared vision for greater influence in FIFA and a brighter future for African football.
