GERVINHO’S AIRPORT SCANDAL RESURFACES: DETAILS OF FAILED ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE GIRLFRIEND ON FLIGHT
Old controversy has returned to haunt Gervinho, the Ivorian international and former AS Roma forward, as the press revisits an incident dating back to October of the previous year.
After fulfilling his national team duties with Ivory Coast, Gervinho was scheduled to return to Rome on a private flight chartered by his club. However, the return trip didn’t go as planned. According to multiple reports, the former Lille star attempted to have his girlfriend board the flight—despite her not having the proper clearance to travel.
In a surprising twist, Gervinho allegedly tried to bribe four airport security agents at Abidjan airport to get her aboard. However, the plan fell through when the pilot of the aircraft refused to take off, standing firm on protocol and security regulations.
The incident reportedly led to disciplinary action against the implicated agents, who were allegedly dismissed from their positions following an internal investigation.
While Gervinho never publicly addressed the scandal in detail, the story stirred controversy at the time, drawing criticism over the misuse of influence and poor judgment. The issue has resurfaced now, raising questions about professionalism and accountability—even among football’s biggest stars.
