**Constant Omari Selemani Appointed Chair of FIFA Task Force Against Racism**
Constant Omari Selemani, president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA), has been appointed chairman of FIFA’s Task Force Against Racism and Discrimination. The decision was announced following the FIFA Executive Committee meeting held on September 24 and 25.
Omari, who was inducted as a member of the FIFA Executive Committee earlier this year in May, joins fellow new member Tunisian Tarek Bouchamaoui in the global football governing body’s leadership ranks. Reflecting on his appointment, Omari described it as a “consecration,” attributing the honour to the recognition and support from his African peers for the work he has accomplished over the years within the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Beyond his new role, Omari remains a vocal supporter of FIFA President Sepp Blatter amid ongoing controversies surrounding the organisation. He dismissed critics of Blatter, asserting, “President Blatter is not a criminal. So, I don’t see why someone who is not a criminal should see his election affected.”
Omari’s new mandate will task him with leading FIFA’s continued efforts to combat racism and discrimination in football — a persistent challenge faced by the sport worldwide. His experience within African football governance is expected to bring a valuable perspective to this global initiative.
