Congolese midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy seals Atromitos move after Sivasspor spell

Samuel Moutoussamy has completed a switch to Atromitos, signing a two-year deal with the Greek side after spending last season in Turkey with Sivasspor.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international was officially unveiled on Friday, with the club confirming he will wear the number 92 shirt.

Atromitos have recruited the 28-year-old with the aim of adding experience and stability to their midfield ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

The Greek club hailed the acquisition as a key step in reinforcing their squad depth for the season.

Moutoussamy’s career began at Olympique Lyonnais, where he developed through the youth system before making his professional breakthrough at FC Nantes.

He debuted for the Canaries in 2017 and went on to establish himself in Ligue 1 over several seasons.

His time at Nantes included a loan stint at Dutch side Fortuna Sittard, before returning to France where he accumulated more than 200 senior appearances and featured in the Europa League.

His consistency and versatility in midfield earned him a call-up to the DR Congo national team, with whom he has become a regular fixture.

Known for his work rate and tactical intelligence, Moutoussamy has represented the Leopards in competitive fixtures on the continental stage, further cementing his reputation as a dependable international player.

In 2024, he opted for a new challenge in Turkey with Sivasspor. During his single season there, he featured in 37 matches across all competitions, underlining his reliability and ability to adapt to different footballing environments.

Despite the relative success of his spell in Turkey, Moutoussamy chose to embrace another change of direction, this time moving to the Greek Super League.

At Atromitos, the Congolese midfielder is expected to play a central role, bringing leadership qualities and valuable experience to a team eager to improve its standing in domestic competition.

His arrival also offers Atromitos a player with proven resilience and a track record of consistency in Europe’s top leagues.

Speaking after his move was announced, the club expressed optimism about the impact Moutoussamy could have on the squad. The transfer reflects their intention to blend youth with seasoned professionals in pursuit of greater success this season.

For Moutoussamy, the Greek chapter represents not only a fresh opportunity at club level but also a chance to maintain form ahead of upcoming international commitments.

With his place in the DR Congo national side firmly established, regular playing time at Atromitos will be crucial as he continues to balance responsibilities for both club and country.

The midfielder’s journey — from his early days in Lyon’s academy, through the competitive arenas of Ligue 1, the Netherlands, and Turkey — has been marked by adaptability and determination.

Now, with a new challenge in Athens, Moutoussamy will aim to demonstrate once again why he has remained a consistent presence in European football for nearly a decade.
