Joel Ngandu Kayamba has returned to Kazakhstani side Atyrau after a brief and uneventful stint with Abu Salim in Libya’s top division, during which he failed to make a single appearance.

The Congolese international winger’s return to Atyrau marks a critical juncture in his career.

Having been without competitive football since February, Kayamba’s re-signing is both a relief and a fresh opportunity to revive his form.

His return is also seen as a testament to the strong rapport he maintained with the Kazakh club’s hierarchy, who have shown renewed faith in his abilities despite his recent inactivity.

Kayamba, 31, was previously a key figure for Atyrau, known for his pace and direct approach on the flanks.

His unexpected transfer to Abu Salim earlier this year was seen as a gamble, but the move ultimately yielded no playing time and left the winger sidelined during the crucial second half of the season.

With no matches played in Libya, his fitness and match sharpness will undoubtedly come under scrutiny as he attempts to regain rhythm.

Club insiders have described his return as a “near-salvation,” pointing to the rarity of players being reintegrated into squads after such extended absences.

That decision, according to sources close to Atyrau, stems from the respect Kayamba earned during his first spell at the club — both for his professionalism and for the relationships he built within the dressing room and among staff.

Now, the challenge facing Kayamba is clear. With pre-season preparations under way, he will need to work tirelessly to reach full match fitness, having missed several months of competitive action.

The risk of injury looms large for players returning from long layoffs, and the winger will be expected to manage his workload carefully as he rebuilds confidence and form.

The former Mabuilu man has built a journeyman career across Europe and Africa, but this chapter offers perhaps one of his most defining opportunities.

A successful second stint at Atyrau could reignite his reputation and reestablish him as a key figure in the Kazakhstan Premier League.

For now, Kayamba’s return is a welcome development for Atyrau and for the player himself.

What remains is for him to prove that the faith shown in him was not misplaced.
