Gaël Kakuta has signed for AEL Larissa until the end of the current season, embarking on a new chapter in Greece’s top flight.
The Greek Super League side confirmed the arrival of the experienced Congolese international, who joins after leaving Sakaryaspor in Turkey.
The move marks the 15th club of Kakuta’s professional career and his first appearance in the Greek Super League.
In Larissa, Kakuta will link up with fellow Congolese player Dylan Batubinsika, recently recruited by the club.
The pair are set to share the dressing room as Larissa look to benefit from the experience both bring to the squad.
Kakuta’s career has spanned several of Europe’s major leagues. He began his development in France before gaining early recognition on the international stage.
In England, he featured for Chelsea FC, winning the Premier League title in 2010 as well as a domestic cup, and later had spells with Fulham FC and Bolton Wanderers.
His journey also took him to Spain, where he represented Deportivo de La Coruna, Sevilla FC and Rayo Vallecano.
In Italy, he wore the colours of SS Lazio, while in France he made a significant impact at RC Lens following spells at Amiens and Dijon. He also spent time in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem.
On the international stage, Kakuta has earned 30 caps and scored five goals for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
His arrival provides Larissa with a player boasting experience across multiple championships, as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the remainder of the season.
