Nathan Fasika Idumba has returned to Cape Town City following his loan stint with Norwegian side Vålerenga.
The Congolese center-back, whose loan included a purchase option, will rejoin the South African outfit after Vålerenga opted not to exercise the clause. Fasika remains under contract with Cape Town City until 2026.
The 24-year-old’s return is seen as a boost for the Citizens, who struggled in his absence. His departure earlier coincided with Brice Ambina’s permanent transfer to Vålerenga, leaving Cape Town City shorthanded in defense.
Since joining the team during the 2021/2022 season, Fasika has been a defensive stalwart, playing a pivotal role in Cape Town City’s success. His contributions helped the team secure a spot in the South African Cup final and achieve a second-place finish in the PSL.
Currently languishing in 12th place, Cape Town City faces Kaizer Chiefs this Sunday to kickstart their 2024 campaign. While Fasika’s immediate impact may be delayed, his presence signals hope for the team’s resurgence.
