Crystal Palace have stepped up their pursuit of DR Congo defender Chrislain Matsima by submitting an improved offer to Bundesliga side FC Augsburg as they seek to complete a deal before the new Premier League season.

The London club have increased their bid after an initial proposal was rejected, with negotiations between the two clubs gathering pace over the 24-year-old centre-back.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Crystal Palace’s latest offer is worth €25 million, up from an opening bid of €20 million that Augsburg turned down.

Palace increase pressure

The improved proposal has intensified talks between the clubs, although Augsburg are yet to decide whether to accept what would represent a significant transfer fee for the defender.

The Bundesliga side are continuing negotiations as Crystal Palace push to finalise the move.

Player keen on Premier League switch

While discussions between the clubs continue, Matsima has already agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace, according to the report.

The defender is said to be eager to test himself in the Premier League and is now waiting for Augsburg and Palace to reach an agreement that would allow the transfer to go ahead.

A move to England would mark the next step in the career of the DR Congo international, whose performances in Germany have attracted growing interest from one of the Premier League’s established clubs.
