Faitout Maouassa Declines Congo Call-Up Ahead of Crucial AFCON Qualifier
Faitout Maouassa, the Nîmes defender, will not join the Congo national team for the final day of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the decisive match against Zimbabwe.
Although coach Claude Le Roy Valdo had included him in the preliminary squad, Maouassa — a member of the French U21 team — has chosen to focus on his international career with France, particularly with the upcoming European U21 Championship in mind.
As a result, Maouassa’s name does not appear among the 16 expatriate players announced on Wednesday by the Congolese Football Federation.
