As previously reported, CAF has postponed the second leg of the Confederation Cup quarter-final between Al Hilal and Étoile du Sahel for security reasons, following last week’s overthrow of President Omar El Bashir in Khartoum.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, the match will now take place on April 22nd in Cairo. However, the change of venue has not been well received by the Sudanese club. In a letter to CAF, Al Hilal complained that they were informed of the decision only after their opponents, raising concerns over fairness and preparation.
The Sudanese team also emphasized that they could ensure the safety of all participants if the match were held in their home city of Omdurman. As an alternative, they suggested relocating the match to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, if Cairo was deemed unsuitable.
Despite the objections, CAF has confirmed that the match will go ahead in Egypt, with the specific stadium yet to be announced, maintaining the April 22nd date.
