The final day of the third round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in the Concacaf zone was played on Tuesday. The six qualifiers from the last round are known.

The United States qualified without much difficulty. Jamaica, Honduras, Panama, and Costa Rica also qualified. Mexico, winner at home in El Salvador (2-0), was already assured of its qualification.

The final round will take place between February and October as part of a six-team, home-and-away championship format. The first three will qualify directly for the 2014 World Cup, and the fourth will compete in a play-off against the winner of the Oceania zone.

In Kansas City, the Americans only needed a draw but gave Guatemala no favors (3-1). Clint Dempsey had a perfect match. The Tottenham player scored twice in the first half and offered an assist to former Rennais Carlos Bocanegra for the opener. At the same time, Jamaica, by beating Antigua and Barbuda 4-1, took second place.

Finally, the surprise came from the elimination of Canada, crushed by Honduras (8-1!) The maple leaf players needed a draw to qualify, but they left Honduras with humiliation. “It’s disappointing to see the way the team has collapsed,” said Canadian coach Stephen Hart, whose team had conceded only three goals in 11 matches since the start of their qualifying campaign.
