The Comoros national football team, under the guidance of head coach Stefano Cusin, has unveiled its squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Madagascar and Chad. The matches are scheduled for June 7 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and June 11 in Oujda, Morocco.
Cusin has called up 24 players, with notable absences including Rafiki Saïd, due to injury, and Ahmed Mogni.
Among the new faces, midfielder Rayan Lutin from Amiens has been included after making his mark in the U20 team.
Faïz Mattoir, who has made a remarkable recovery from a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for nearly a season and a half, makes his return.
Also rejoining the squad are El Fardou Ben Mohamed and Rafidine Abdullah, both of whom were previously omitted from selection.
Familiar Faces and Emerging Talent
The squad list maintains a core of experienced players such as Faïz Selemani, Youssouf M’Changama, Kassim Mdahoma, and El Fardou Ben Mohamed.
Additionally, young defensive midfielder Raimane Daou, who has already earned two caps for the national team and recently signed his first professional contract with Olympique de Marseille (OM), is included.
The team will assemble from next Tuesday, giving them ample time to prepare for their crucial encounter with Madagascar at the FNB Stadium.
Following this match, they will head to Morocco for their fixture at the Oujda municipal stadium on June 11.
The Comoros aim to solidify their position at the top of Group I, which they currently lead after victories over the Central African Republic (4-2) and Ghana (1-0) last November.
A Strong Track Record Under Cusin
Since Stefano Cusin’s appointment on October 2, 2023, the Comoros have remained unbeaten.
In their last six matches, the Coelacanths have secured four wins and two draws, showcasing their resilience and strategic prowess under Cusin’s leadership.
The squad’s composition reflects a blend of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, setting a robust foundation as they continue their quest for World Cup qualification.
The inclusion of a young OM professional, along with the return of key players, signals a dynamic approach aimed at harnessing both experience and youthful energy.
As the Comoros prepare for these critical matches, the team’s supporters are hopeful for continued success and a step closer to their World Cup dreams.
