Como line up Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah ahead of Champions League debut

Trevoh Chalobah is close to leaving Chelsea for Italian club Como during the current summer transfer window, with the two clubs having reached a verbal agreement over a deal for the England defender.

The proposed transfer is worth an initial €30m, with a further €6m available in add-ons. The agreement also includes the relinquishing of a percentage of any future sale of the player.

Italian journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported the development on his official X account, saying: “Agreement between the two clubs has been reached for €30m as a fixed fee, plus €6m in add-ons, with a percentage of the player’s future sale being waived.”

Chalobah is understood to be keen on a move to Italy and is ready to take part in the Champions League with Como. The Italian side will compete in the tournament for the first time in its history next season, making the opportunity a significant factor in the 26-year-old’s decision.

Como are looking to strengthen their squad with a number of signings as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign. Chalobah’s possible arrival would add an experienced Chelsea defender to their plans as they build for the demands of European football.

The agreement remains described as verbal, meaning the move has not yet been formally completed. However, the reported financial terms represent a potential €36m package for Chelsea if all of the agreed additions are reached.

For Chalobah, the transfer would bring a new chapter after his time at Chelsea. The defender has been with the club throughout his senior career, while a move to Como would offer him the chance to continue playing at the highest level in European competition.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will not take part in any European tournament next season. Their absence follows a 10th-place finish in the Premier League table, leaving the club without Champions League, Europa League or Conference League football in the campaign ahead.

That contrast appears to be central to the proposed move. While Chelsea will spend the new season without European fixtures, Como are preparing for a historic Champions League debut and have identified Chalobah as part of their recruitment plans.

The deal still requires the final formal steps before Chalobah can be confirmed as a Como player, but the reported agreement puts the defender on the brink of a move away from Stamford Bridge.
