Como matched the largest winning margin in UEFA Champions League history with a stunning 9-1 victory away to Lens, extending their winning run to six matches in all competitions.
Cesc Fabregas’ team continued an impressive debut campaign in the competition, having now won two of their opening three matches. Their latest success was secured in emphatic fashion as Como scored nine times in France.
Lens offered an early glimpse of a response through Florian Thauvin, but the hosts were soon overwhelmed. Como took the lead inside 10 minutes when Anastasios Douvikas finished from close range after Maximo Perrone had met a corner with a header.
Douvikas struck again before half-time, converting Alex Valle’s header across goal to give Como a commanding advantage. Nico Paz then completed an outstanding first-half performance by finishing a rapid counter-attack, leaving the visitors three goals ahead at the interval.
Como resumed with the same intensity and extended their lead just two minutes after the restart. Lucas Da Cunha swept Paz’s precisely weighted pass into the net to make it 4-0.
Marc-Oliver Kempf added a fifth with a header before Douvikas completed his hat-trick. Once again, Paz was the provider, underlining his influence on a one-sided contest.
Substitute Mattia Liberali then drove into the penalty area and scored Como’s seventh. Lens briefly lifted the mood for the home side when Ruben Aguilar produced an excellent volley to reduce the deficit.
That goal did little to slow Como’s attacking momentum. Martin Baturina restored the seven-goal advantage by making it 8-1, before Matteo Papacccioli completed the rout in stoppage time.
The result represents a landmark evening for Como and a powerful statement of their ambitions in European football. For Lens, the scale of the defeat leaves them needing a swift response before Sunday’s Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique de Marseille.
