Marcelo Coler, Al Ahly’s head coach, commends Anthony Modeste for his pivotal role in winning the Egyptian Super Cup, emphasizing the significance of Modeste and Karim Fouad’s goals.
In a thrilling Egyptian Super Cup final, Al Ahly secured victory against Modern Future with a 4-2 scoreline, with Anthony Modeste contributing a goal and an assist, securing praise from Coach Marcelo Coler.
During the press conference, Coler remarked, “The match unfolded in a scenario that wasn’t expected, as we were in control, and suddenly the situation flipped.”
He added, “Ultimately, we won the title, and, more importantly for me, Anthony Modeste and Karim Fouad scored, which was very important for me.”
Reflecting on the team’s recent challenges, Coler said, “We’ve been under significant pressure lately, spending a long time in hotels, traveling to different countries, and isolated from our friends and families.
The team will now have a good rest period, and I hope the same applies to the internationals joining their national teams. In the coming days, I hope they try to get the proper rest during their break.”
Speaking specifically about Modeste, Coler expressed his confidence, saying, “Modeste is a very talented player, one of the best to have played in European leagues, and I trust him immensely.
” He explained, “In the recent past, he faced challenges beyond his control, needing time for readiness initially, then contracting COVID-19, disrupting his rhythm.
Despite becoming fit, he faced a red card against Al Ittihad, which, in my view, he didn’t deserve.”
Coler continued, “Modeste needed an opportunity to express himself, and anyone who understands football will know he has a unique touch.
I am very pleased with his goal and the assist for the fourth goal. Consequently, he is an excellent player, and we will heavily rely on him in the upcoming period. I want him to build on what he showcased today.”
