Cody Gakpo wary of wounded Chelsea ahead of Anfield clash

Cody Gakpo insists Liverpool cannot afford to take Chelsea lightly when the two sides meet at Anfield, despite the Blues arriving on the back of six straight Premier League defeats.

“They are in a tough place at the moment, but at one point, it has to turn around. Hopefully it’s not against us,” the Dutch forward warned, stressing that form can change quickly in this league.

Gakpo underlined the quality still present in Chelsea’s squad and the problems they have caused Liverpool in the past.

“We also cannot deny that they have a good team, they have great players, so we shouldn’t at all underestimate them for the quality they have, the team they have been and always shown against us,” he said. “It’s always a tough game. So, we have to be ready.”

The sides last met in October, when Chelsea snatched a 2–1 win thanks to a dramatic late strike from Estevao. This time, however, a very different Chelsea will visit Anfield, now led by interim head coach Calum McFarlane and desperate to halt their losing streak.
