Cody Gakpo transfer rumour: Manchester City linked with Liverpool winger
Dutch-Togolese winger Cody Gakpo is the subject of a rumour linking him with a move from Liverpool to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Gakpo, 27, has a contract with Liverpool until 30 June 2030 and is valued at €60m. The left winger joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 in a deal worth €42m.
He has started the 2026-27 Premier League season with one goal from his only appearance, completing the full 90 minutes. Gakpo also scored three goals and provided one assist in four appearances for the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup.
The forward was Liverpool’s leading scorer in the 2024-25 League Cup, scoring five goals in the competition, and helped the club win the Premier League title that season. He also won the League Cup with Liverpool in 2024.
Gakpo’s current deal means Liverpool are not facing an imminent contract expiry, while his market valuation provides an indication of the level at which any potential negotiations could begin. The rumour concerns a move between two Premier League clubs, with Manchester City named as the proposed destination.
Gakpo remains a Liverpool player, having made an early contribution to the club’s current league campaign, and there has been no confirmation of a transfer.
