The newly appointed head coach of Zambia’s women’s national football team, the Copper Queens, Nora Häuptle, has revealed that coaching the team has been a long-time dream of hers.
The Swiss coach has signed a three-year contract with the Copper Queens.
Häuptle was introduced as the new head coach at a press event on Friday at the Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, following her decision not to renew her contract with Ghana’s Black Queens.
During the unveiling, Häuptle shared her excitement about the opportunity, emphasizing that coaching the Copper Queens had always been a personal aspiration.
She expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating,
“It was always a wish for me to take over this team because there are so many fantastic players, there is so much potential I see in this team and of course, I know that the expectations are very high.”
Reflecting on the team’s previous achievements, she added, “The team already got bronze (at the WAFCON 2022) and it’s our objective to go and top this result,” Hauptle added.
Häuptle takes over from Bruce Mwape and is set to earn a monthly salary of $8,000.
