Coaching shake-up reshapes Egyptian Premier League ahead of new season

A sweeping reshuffle of coaching roles is setting the tone for what promises to be an unpredictable Egyptian Premier League season.

With the league expanding to 21 teams following the cancellation of relegation last year, clubs are making major changes in their technical benches to gear up for the August 8 start.

Ismailia Electricity, fresh from a historic promotion, parted ways with Yasser Al-Kinani and brought in Reza Shehata to steer the ship. Ghazl al-Mahalla followed suit, replacing Ahmed Mustafa Bebo with Alaa Abdel-Al, who previously coached El Gouna.

In Alexandria, Magdi Abdel Atty resigned from Al-Ittihad and took over at Modern Sport, succeeding Algerian Abdelhak Ben Sheikha. Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad is weighing options between Ahmed Sami and Khaled Jalal.

Al-Masri released interim boss Mimi Abdel Razek, naming him Chairman of the Planning Committee, and started talks with high-profile names like Mouin Shaabani and Hossam Al-Badri.

Al-Ahly appointed Spaniard Jose Riveiro, but Zamalek’s coaching situation remains unresolved as Ayman Ramadi awaits contract talks.

This coaching shakeup hints at a fiercely competitive season with contrasting goals across the table.
