Kenya new coach Benni McCarthy has reiterates his desire to revive the national team after landing the coaching job.
The South African football legend was officially appointed early March to steer affairs of the Harambee Stars.
The former assistant coach of Manchester United is expected to lead the Harambee Stars until 2027.
In an interview, McCarthy has outlined his ambition to elevate Kenya’s status in African football.
“It’s sleeping giant in my eyes. I looked at the project and saw country with great potential. They’ve some really talented young players who play abroad. With the right mindset and mentality, we can do something special for the team.” McCarthy stated.
He admitted that while he had discussions with few Major League Soccer MLS clubs, he was far from being in high demand.
“I wouldn’t say I was in demand. I did have a few job interviews for jobs where you go with other coaches, mostly with MLS clubs in the US. Then this (Kenya job) came back”
