Newly appointed Algeria U17 head coach Amine Ghimouz has unveiled an extensive scouting strategy aimed at building a strong national youth team, with talent identification camps scheduled across three key regions of the country.
The initiative begins on Saturday, April 19, at the National School of Olympic Sports in El Bez, Sétif, and will run through April 23.
It marks the first step in Ghimouz’s broader plan to revitalize the U17 setup and prepare a competitive squad for future international challenges.
Speaking to the official website of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Ghimouz outlined the structure of his nationwide approach.
“We will start with a squad review through three regional training courses,” he explained. “The first, scheduled for April 19, will concern the eastern zone of the country.
Thirty players have been preselected, from the regional leagues of Constantine, Batna and Annaba.”
The second phase of the selection process will take place in Oran from April 27 to May 1, bringing together young prospects from the Oran, Béchar, and Saïda leagues.
A final camp will then be held in Algiers, featuring players drawn from Algiers, Blida, and Ouargla.
All players invited to participate in these camps have been identified through a national scouting effort led by the National Technical Directorate (DTN).
Ghimouz emphasized that this process was rooted in the recent success of a talent discovery initiative held in Oran.
“All the players called up for these training camps were identified in advance by the National Technical Directorate (DTN), following the first edition of the National Festival of Young Talents, dedicated to players born in 2010, organized last summer in Oran,” he noted.
The goal, according to Ghimouz, is not simply to fill positions but to establish a foundation for long-term success.
“We will take the time to evaluate each player carefully, in order to build a solid base for this new U17 selection,” he added.
With a structured and data-driven approach now in place, Ghimouz is seeking to uncover the next generation of Algerian football stars—athletes who can not only compete at youth levels but eventually progress to represent the country at senior international tournaments.
