Guangzhou Evergrande secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup by defeating Al-Ahly 2-0. Elkeson opened the scoring in the 48th minute after a shot from Muriqui was saved on the line. Muriqui doubled the lead in the 66th minute. Al-Ahly had opportunities to score, with Saïd hitting the bar in the 78th minute, and Zhang Linpeng of Guangzhou hitting the post in the 82nd minute. Guangzhou Evergrande will face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals on December 17.
